Despite the long time it took her to complete her tasks, she remained diligent. The deterioration of Vera's knees forced her to use a cane to walk. Difficult Times Pexels Her fate was inevitable in the end, so she just accepted it. As a result of walking with the stick, her knees were not placed under stress. In spite of this, Vera was now facing more difficult circumstances. She would be able to spend less and less time on her farm as her mobility decreased. She saw something moving in the long grass, but she couldn't make out what it was. As soon as she looked again, it was gone. She wondered if a fox was hiding behind it.
