Her daughter was six months old when she was divorced at twenty-five, and she had to move to a new state for support. In the past two years, she had never believed in curses, but after all of these things happened to her, she became convinced. Eventually, life would let up, she hoped. Her racing heart and mind were calmed by the pristine alpine town, which promised a greater future than New York had ever offered. She and her daughter finally had a place where they could start over. Looking for A Job Pexels In order to get a job, she sought an affordable apartment first. She would be best suited to finding a job in any business establishment since she had a management degree. There was nothing more important to her than making ends meet. There was still a sting in her wounds after her nasty divorce. However, she could not watch as her little angel starved to death. The fates had their sights on her from the beginning. Job Hunting Pexels Erica had a hard time finding a new job in her small town since she didn't know anyone. Before spending the whole morning running from business to business, she would leave Kelly at the local daycare. Amusement parks and movie theaters were among the places that she visited. Despite her qualifications, no one was interested in hiring her. This was until she discovered this small bakery in the town's heart. It Felt Like Home Pexels The moment Erica stepped through its doors, the place took her breath away. Fresh pastries filled the air, which was surrounded by arctic blue walls and blush pink ceilings. But the staff inside was what really made a difference. After welcoming Erica with a hug, they served her a cup of coffee and muffins. This was her new home, and it was evident she had made the right choice. A forty-year-old man with a bright smile said, "We've always needed a manager for everything! I think you're a great fit." Her mistake was not telling Erica about the strapping man who came in with his daughter on Tuesday afternoons for lemon cakes. It's better to keep some things under wraps. Her mind melted under his intense gaze as he spoke about his five-year-old daughter's sweet tooth and how he had to leave work every Tuesday afternoon. There was no doubt in Mrs. Letty's mind that this was love at first sight. Friendship Pexels The girl did not waste any time in introducing Marcus as the town's dentist and a single father. In spite of his tall height and burly build, he was the sweetest man Mrs. Letty ever saw. His regular presence on Tuesdays made Erica and him friends quickly. This friendship forged a lifelong commitment to happiness. Falling In Love Pexels Marcus also entered the relationship with baggage. Since he lost the mother of his daughter, he had become completely closed off from the outside world. Prior to Erica, his daughter and mother were the only people who mattered to him. Erica had never met a sweeter child than Macy, his daughter. One reason Marcus fell in love with Erica was that she treated her as her own mother. When Marcus wasn't present, she continually put Erica down. The advice she offered seemed more like gloating than wisdom. This should have prompted Erica to rethink everything. Erica had placed Kelly, who was seven months old, in her crib. It was usual for the little angel to sleep for five hours before waking up. However, today was different. Erica wasn't woken up by her wails at night. Kelly's young mom believed she was sound asleep, not realizing that something far more sinister was going on. The woman explained that such a 'broken' woman should not be raising her granddaughter in light of Erica's loss and troubled past. Marcus was shocked by what he heard. Although he didn't explain the reason, he banned his mom from visiting the hospital or their home. He needed to draw the line between his family and her. In order to gain access to the house, she even feigned sickness as a blackmail tactic. In spite of this, Marcus wasn't his mommy's boy anymore. It was beginning to make sense to him why his brothers complained about their mom being overbearing. His message made it clear she would regret going to his house without an invitation and asked her not to visit again unless he invited her. What was Erica's reaction to all this? Upon learning the whole story, the doctor was eager to ban the mother-in-law from the delivery room. She wouldn't have made the decision if she knew they would all end up in court.
