We all love our pets, and some of us just aren’t comfortable leaving them home. It isn’t really a vacation if you have to be worried about your pet the whole time! Today we will explore how to take your fur babies with you when you travel and have fun doing it. It doesn’t have to be difficult or dramatic. With these tips, you can pack your pet up and have them traveling with you like a pro in no time!

Have Regular Veterinary Visits

To travel, your pet should be healthy. This means that they should have their vaccinations, be spayed or neutered, and be properly socialized. Not only should they have regular veterinary visits, a special visit is in order before any big trip away from home. You should also consider having your pet microchipped before travelling in case of an emergency.

Provide Proper Training

Many, if not most, places have leash laws. This means even if your pet is allowed to go with you to a dinner on the patio, they may still need to be on a leash. Make sure your dog or cat is accustomed to wearing a leash and is properly behaved in public settings around other people and animals.

Buy the Right Carrier

Using a hand-me-down carrier or one you picked up at a yard sale might sound like a bargain, but don’t be tempted. Buy a good quality carrier that fits your specific pet and get them used to the carrier long before any trip. Try leaving the door open so they can check it out at first, and come and go as they please. Also make sure your carrier is the right size for the airline you’ll be flying with.

Find Pet Friendly Accommodations

Don’t just assume that everywhere will be accommodating to your pet. Many hotels, Airbnb’s, and other types of accommodations do not allow pets or allow only cats or only dogs. Many pet owners find it convenient to find a hotel chain that accepts pets and stick with it to ensure easier trip planning.
