What is it about the ocean that speaks to our hearts? Maybe it’s the salty air, the lazy waves, or the way time seems to melt like sunscreen in the sun. A couple of days spent on a beach reminds us of the constancy of the earth and the still, small moments that are always there for us.

So, we’ve compiled a list of the most beautiful beaches in the world, some of which are tucked into secret corners of the land. Whether you’d like to see some turquoise waters, dramatic sea cliffs, or touch some powder-soft sand, we have something here for everyone.

Depending on which one you choose, you’ll either need to pack your swimsuit or your parka. But, one thing’s for certain: you’ll be transformed by the time you leave.

Navagio Beach | Zakynthos, Greece

No article on heavenly beaches would be complete without a stopover in Greece. And, while Santorini often takes the cake, we’d like to discuss Navagio Beach. Also known as Shipwreck Beach (yes, there’s a rusty shipwreck stuck in the sand), this secluded cove is only accessible by boat. Sheer limestone cliffs wrap around the beach like a secret, and the water laps up to the shoreline in the most unbelievable shade of blue.

Whitehaven Beach | Whitsundays, Australia

This Australian stunner stretches over four miles of sand and is made of 98% pure silica, giving the sand a pristine white, silky feel. It’s so unique, the sand actually squeaks under your feet. You can take a short boat ride from Airlie Beach. Also, Hill Inlet – at the northern end – is ready to serve up some swirling sand and sea views whenever you stop by.

Anse Source d’Argent | La Digue, Seychelles

Imagine giant granite boulders scattered like sculptures across pale pink sands and shallow, calm waters. It’s like a set from a fantasy film that the creators were gracious enough to leave behind. While you’re here, you can also rent a bike and ride around La Digue – only adding to the island’s charm.

Playa Norte | Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Just a 20-minute ferry ride from Cancun, Playa Norte is filled with palm trees, shallow turquoise waters, and a soft, sandy bottom that goes on forever. It’s much more relaxed than Cancu, and the food options are just as wonderful. You can enjoy some fresh ceviche from a beachfront shack and snorkel right off the shoreline. The sunsets you’ll see here are something that will never leave your mind, much like these other beautiful islands in the Caribbean
