Everyone loves the idea of a summer getaway in Europe, but not every year is the right year for it. There are always finances, regulations, and world politics to be considered.

So if you are considering going to Europe this summer, here are a few reasons you might want to put it off until a different season or maybe next year and find a lovely spot stateside.

Summer in Europe is Hot

This might seem like absolute common sense, but there is a more practical reason for saying it here. Europe is very much a place where you will be required to do a lot of walking. If you are an American, you should put your expectations of air conditioning on hold.

If you aren’t someone who tolerates heat well, the shoulder season is a better time for you to experience Europe.

Summer Means Local Crowds, Too

Americans aren’t the only people on earth who want to visit Europe. Not only do people come from all over the world, but many Europeans vacation throughout the continent during the summer months as well.

This means the crowds are insane and there is a whole world of competition for tables, tickets, and more.

Prices are Higher in the Summer

During the peak tourism months in the summer, the prices on everything go up. During the off months, you can get some deep discounts on unsold rooms, tickets, and venues. If you are trying to do Europe on a shoestring budget, definitely go during the off-season.

A Beach is a Beach

The truth is that you can go to the beach anywhere. There is sand and beautiful blue water. Why necessarily go to Europe for that when there are better, less crowded beaches elsewhere? During the shoulder season, Europe’s beaches are still lovely- and you can find space to stroll along them!
