Café St. Regis
When you find yourself on Île Saint-Louis, stop by Café St. Regis for a glass of wine and a light meal. If you can, sit outside so you can people-watch as everybody turns onto Rue Saint-Louis en l’Île for a small shopping spree. Even if it’s wintertime, their overhead heaters are on full blast and you can warm up with a glass of vin chaud. And, when you’re not people-watching, the view out over the Seine will tantalize and entrance you.
Berthillion
After you’ve enjoyed your meal at Café St. Regis, forego their dessert menu so you can pop across the street for a scoop of ice cream from Berthillion. They’re renowned for using fresh and high-quality ingredients in all their treats, making it less of a guilty pleasure. And, if you’re more of a sorbet person, you might get a kick out of the fact that people have been dying to figure out their recipe for ages, but it still remains a secret to this day.
Shakespeare and Company
Even if you’re a minor bibliophile, no trip to Paris would be complete without a visit to Shakespeare and Company. It’s a lovely little indie bookshop that’s been a meeting place for writers and readers in Paris for over 70 years. It’s charming, enchanting, beholds plenty of rare titles, and will prove impossible for you to leave without at least one new addition to your collection.
Le Petit Châtelet
Once you’ve soaked up all the inspiration within the walls of Shakespeare and Company, hang a left when you leave and sit down for a proper meal at Le Petit Châtelet. As the sun sets, the glow from Notre Dame will prove to be a worthy backdrop to your meal. Here, the staff is friendly, courteous, and the food is impeccable. It’s so authentic, they don’t even have a website. But, the moment you take that first bite, you’ll make it a point to be a repeat customer.
