Do you have a sacred space in your home where you retreat whenever you need to quiet the noise of the outside world? Maybe it’s a reading nook, your bedroom, or that large soaking tub in the bathroom. How would you like to expand your horizons a little further, but still maintain that same sense of peace with every step you take?

We’ve come up with a way to help you continue to see the world, but do it at a nice, gentle pace. We’re hoping you’ll find soul-healing experiences that transform you while you’re away but, more importantly, help you return home with a renewed sense of self.

America

In America, each state feels like its own, unique country. There are countless ways to relax in vastly different settings. But, if we’re going for wholesome healing and relaxation, we have to take aim at a particular part of the country that’s renowned for its wellness retreats and spas.

So, it’s off to Santa Fe, New Mexico we go, in particular Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. Even though you’re in the desert, this is one of the most treasured places in America due to its legendary healing waters. Nowhere else on Earth will you find hot springs that feature the same four healing minerals. The lovely staff here invites you to “soak your soul” in their nine communal hot springs or book a private hot tub for a truly tranquil transformation.

Ireland

In a land of poets and musicians, you can guess where this is going. Yes, we’re going to recommend a night in a pub with a peat fire burning, as the sounds of traditional Irish music, or trad, filling the air. But, to maximize the relaxation, take yourself to a quaint seaside village like Doolin on the West Coast. It’ll be a little less rowdy, depending on the night, than its cousin, Galway City.

When you wake up the next morning, continue the relaxation by strolling along the cliff walk from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher. Mother Nature will guide the way. In Ojo Caliente, the waters will soothe your soul; in Doolin, the Atlantic winds will comb through your hair and whisper, “It’ll all be alright.” If you’d like to extend your stay, any one of these additional seaside villages will be happy to extend a warm welcome.

England

When we think of relaxation in England, we think of the Cotswolds. It’s one charming village after another, perfect for afternoon strolls. With such a bounty of beauty, it can be difficult to figure out where to base yourself, though. Two nice options are Broadway and Bibury.

Broadway is a bit larger with more amenities while Bibury offers a slower-paced experience. In Broadway, you have High Street, brimming with antique shops, coffee shops, and verdant green spaces. In Bibury, you’ll enjoy those majestic morning and evening strolls where it feels like it’s just you and the stars. But, you’ll have to travel to other villages for your shopping, meals, etc.

Stow-on-the-Wold is another nice option because it’s one of the most central villages and will have everything at hand. One thing’s for sure, though: relaxation abounds in the Cotswolds with its fairy tale houses, expansive greenery, soft, gentle breezes, and delicate light.

Scotland

For a hefty dose of relaxation in Scotland, it’s off to The Highlands we go. Particularly, Braemar before heading further north to the hub of the Highlands, Inverness. While in Braemar, you simply must stay a night or two at The Fife Arms

It’s a Victorian coaching inn that’s been restored in the most magnificent way. The owners are world-class art collectors and have one of the finest collections. With award-winning restaurants and lounges on-site, you’ll never want to leave the property. But, since you’re at the gateway to the Cairngorms and the Highlands, a few day trips will surely be in your future.

As for another option, in terms of relaxation, you could also head to the most northwesterly point of Scotland and spend a few nights in a pleasant cottage in the Orkney Islands. Feeling a bit like Doolin, the sea breezes will wrap you in their arms and tuck you into bed at night – perhaps with a fine glass of whiskey on your bedside table.
