Raise your hand if you’re ready to bow out of this thing called life for a moment. We’re right there with you. And, when the moment strikes, there’s only one thing left to do: pack your bags for a getaway to a place where time stands still, the flowers dance in the wind, and the sounds of the sea wash away every last care in the world. We have ten ideas in mind as, together, we hit the reset button and indulge in a little bit of magic.

It’s pretty safe to say we’d put Colmar, France at the top of our list. Rumor has it, it’s the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast. And, if Disney deems it magic, then it must be. Colmar is a wonderful place to get lost in time, wander along the canal in Little Venice, gaze upon the half-timbered houses, and tune out ordinary life – even if just for a moment.

Painswick, England

Known as “The Queen of the Cotswolds,” Painswick is one of the best-preserved towns in the Cotswolds. With its butter-colored buildings and expansive churchyard, it instantly transports you through time. As you stand and gaze at the swaying yew trees in St Mary’s Church, you’ll still have plenty of other enchanting moments waiting for you – particularly in the Rococo Garden.

In Ireland, there’s a tiny town with pink cottages and ancient castles where time definitely stands still. With a population of about 300 people, somehow, it’s established itself as a mecca for traditional Irish music, or trad. There are three main pubs that serve up the music, night after night: O’Connor’s, McGann’s, and McDermott’s. As the music notes fill the air, you’ll actually feel time stop as you wish you could bottle those moments of magic.
