The Most Beautiful Islands In Spain
Is there any country more eclectic than Spain? It has major meccas, mountain towns, and beautiful seascapes. Yet, out of everything it has to offer, people keep coming back to its islands time and time again.
You have the heavy hitters like Tenerife and Ibiza. But, there are also plenty of smaller gems like El Hierro. Together, we’d like to explore a few of them with you. Hopefully, by the time we’re through, you’ll know which direction to go when you land in Spain.
Mallorca
Mallorca is one of the largest and most well-known of the Balearic Islands. It’s a dream destination with its turquoise waters, rugged mountains, and charming villages like Valldemossa and Deià.
With so many sights to see, you can design your itinerary in any number of ways while you’re here. You might also like to explore the Gothic-style Palma Cathedral, hike through the Tramuntana Mountains, or relax on the beautiful beaches of Es Trenc and Cala Mondragó.
Tenerife
Another big name is Tenerife. It’s the largest of the Canary Islands and home to Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak and active volcano. Tenerife’s landscape is incredibly varied. You have the lush forests in Anaga and the moon-like terrain of Teide National Park.
Then, if you’re a beach lover, Playa de las Teresitas and El Médano will be happy to wash all your cares away. If you can time your trip right, you might like to be a part of the famous Carnival of Santa Cruz – one of the world’s largest celebrations.
Ibiza
Ibiza has quite a reputation for its nightlife – and it’s certainly earned that badge of honor. But, there’s so much more to it than that. When you consider its crystal-clear coves, bohemian markets, and historical Dalt Vila (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), you can see how the island is loaded with all kinds of charm.
So, you can still have a quiet escape here – if that’s what you’re looking for. Consider heading north to some of the smaller villages and putting yourself in position to be able to watch the evening sunsets from Benirràs Beach.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria has the cutest little nickname: a continent in miniature. Like so many of these islands, it has incredibly diverse scenery. From the golden dunes of Maspalomas to the lush greenery of the interior, it’s a feast for the eyes.
The capital, Las Palmas, has a fascinating mix of history and modernity, while the quaint village of Tejada offers breathtaking mountain views. This is also a great island if you’re in the mood for a little thrill-seeking. You won’t be hard-pressed to find places to hike, surf, or even ride a camel in the dunes!
