See the World’s Most Vibrant Holidays
Across cultures and seasons, some of the world’s most unforgettable celebrations are defined not by noise or spectacle alone, but by color, light, and shared emotion.
These gatherings transform everyday places into something extraordinary, where tradition and beauty meet in both quiet moments and luminous displays. Here are some of the world’s most colorful holidays and festivals.
Holi
Celebrating the love between Radha and Krishna, Holi is one of the most colorful holidays ever. Themes of the predominantly Indian holiday include love, spring, and good triumphing over evil. To celebrate, people throw brightly colored powder at each other.
Día de los Muertos
In Mexico, Día de los Muertos (translated to Day of the Dead) celebrates and honors lost loved ones. Marigolds, face-paint, and colorful costumes are all a big part of this holiday. What it is most known for, though, is calaveras, which are sugar skulls painted in extraordinary bright colors.
Chinese New Year
The New Year is welcomed with great spectacle in China. The Lunar New Year ushers in red lanterns, parades with colorful dragons, and celebrations across China and in many other places around the world.
Traditionally, there is a lot of red at this time of year, sometimes with gold trim to symbolize good fortune and wealth.
Pasqua
Easter in Italy is often characterized by grand processions, especially in Southern Italy. Trapani, Sicily has a procession of icons that lasts for a full 24 hours on Good Friday. Naples and Calabria also have significant parades, reenactments, and pageantry.
