Rome, Italy

With the Colosseum being one of the most well-preserved monuments of ancient Rome, this feels like a good starting point. Aside from The Colosseum, you also have The Pantheon, built in 126 AD. This temple-turned-church is famous for its massive dome, which was the largest in the world for over a thousand years. Truly, it’s an architectural masterpiece for 126 AD when you also consider the oculus, an open circular window at the top, that was designed to allow all that natural light to in, creating a mystical, magical atmosphere inside.

Athens is where classical architecture truly began, inspiring countless other structures throughout history. You have the Parthenon, sitting atop the Acropolis – a temple dedicated to Athena. That would certainly be the ultimate symbol of Greek architecture. Then, there’s the Erechtheion, known for its striking Caryatid Porch where six sculpted female figures stand as columns. And don’t forget the Temple of Hephaestus – one of the best-preserved Greek temples.

For some neoclassical elegance, it’s time to head over to Paris. With its romantic boulevards and stunning landmarks, there’s no escaping the wonder and beauty that fills the air. We’d probably go with The Palais Garnier first, Paris’ magnificent opera house. Built in the Beaux-Arts style, it incorporates gilded classical elements such as columns, pediments, and intricate sculptures. Then, you have the Panthéon. Inspired by the Roman Pantheon, this neoclassical monument is an architectural masterpiece with its massive dome and imposing columns. It also serves as the resting place for many notable figures in French history, including Victor Hugo and Marie Curie.
