Corfu, one of Greece’s larger islands located off the western coast near Albania, is a paradise waiting to be explored. After spending a week on the island, I’ve gathered 10 reasons why Corfu should be at the top of your list this spring.

1. The Food

One of the highlights of traveling to Greece is, without a doubt, the food. Greek cuisine is fresh, flavorful, and rich in staple ingredients like feta cheese, pita, olives, meat, and of course, tzatziki. Whether you’re indulging in a traditional gyro packed with your choice of meat and veggies, or enjoying a plate of tzatziki with warm pita, each bite is packed with flavor. There are endless dishes to try—Greek salads, stuffed eggplants, moussaka, and more. And for a sweet treat, baklava is everywhere, along with other local delicacies. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a Greek coffee and perhaps finish the night with a local ouzo or Rakia.

2. Dozens of Beaches to Explore

Corfu’s size allows it to offer a wide variety of beaches, each catering to different preferences. On the west side of the island, you’ll find the best sandy beaches, many of which are more peaceful and less crowded. One of my personal favorites is Agios Gordios, a village with a stunning sandy beach, dramatic cliffs, and plenty of restaurants and accommodations. It’s easily accessible by bus, making it perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. Another beautiful option is Rovinia Beach, just north of Agios Gordios, surrounded by clear blue waters and rocky cliffs. Whether you’re beach-hopping by car or taking the public bus, you’ll never run out of places to soak in the sun.

3. Charming Villages

Corfu is dotted with picturesque villages, each with its own unique charm. Some are nestled in the lush mountains, while others sit along the coast, offering beautiful views of the sea. Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets is like stepping back in time. Every village has its own character, and exploring them is a must during your trip. Each one offers a glimpse into the local culture and the island’s rich history.

4. Mild Weather

If you visit Corfu during spring or fall, you’ll experience the best of both worlds: perfect temperatures and plenty of sunshine without the oppressive heat of summer. Spring is ideal for wandering through the island’s towns, lounging on beaches, and hiking without breaking a sweat. The mild temperatures are a great reason to visit during the shoulder seasons, allowing you to enjoy everything the island has to offer in comfort.
