11 Golden Rules of Camping For Spring
Don’t you just love a weekend away in the woods? It’s the most beautiful way to drown out all the noise we’re often overloaded with in everyday life. When we strip away the light pollution, the scrolling, and the fast pace of everyday life, it somehow helps us reset our systems.
The best way to make the most of your time away is to be ready with a master plan. Below, we’ve outlined ten golden rules to help you ensure you have everything right at your fingertips for a cozy and successful couple of nights under the stars.
Have a Clear Packing Plan
Before you go, plan through your entire camping trip. Consider each day, from morning to night, and what you might like to have there with you at the site. We’re sticklers for packing lists here because it really reduces the possibility of forgetting things.
One thing we love to do is have our main tent, which we sleep in, and then a smaller tent behind with supplies in storage bins. Then, we set up our kitchen outside the main tent. By packing according to your daily activities and campsite layout, you can make sure you’ve covered all your bases.
Meal Prep
As much as you can, meal prep before you go. Do what you can by marinating the meat ahead of time and preparing all your side dishes in storage containers. This way, when you fire up the grill, you can lay out all your tools, pull out your prepared meat, and toss it all together in the frying pan. The more you can meal prep before you go, the more you’re basically bringing your home to your campsite.
Gear Test
Speaking of your grill, take the time to test your gear as you’re getting organized. Make sure your propane tank is full, your grill is clean, your tent is in good shape, you have all the stakes you need, etc. Keep all your kitchen supplies together and make sure they’re in good working order. Check to see if your dish soap is full, and if your sponge or scrubbing brush is ready to tackle those pots and pans
It’s a great feeling when you load up your gear, item by item, and see that it’s all in good, working order. If you ever want any inspiration about a man who has all the right gear every time he goes camping, check out Go4x4 on YouTube.
Focus On Lighting
Out of all the essentials, lighting is probably the most important. Whether you use propane lanterns, battery-operated ones, or a combination of both, make sure everything is ready to go. As you know, you can never have too many batteries on backup. So, as you gear test, make sure you have a storage container full of backups. The last thing you want is to get to the bathrooms at night and have your flashlight die – or anything else along those lines.
Then, in terms of the campfire, did you pack enough wood? Do you need to bring an axe to chop your wood into smaller pieces? Do you need fire starters or do you plan to work with kindling? However you like to light up your site, this is definitely one of the most important areas to triple-check things.
