9 Best Locations for Camping During the Month of April
When spring rolls in, all we want to do is roll out our sleeping bags and sleep beneath the stars. If you feel the same way, we’re right there with you – and already planning our next camping trip.
Together, we thought we’d spin the globe and take a look at a few different campgrounds around the world that are well worth the hike. What do you say we get some stargazing, lake swimming, and s’mores making on our calendar this month?
Joshua Tree National Park | California, USA
April is one of the best times to visit Joshua Tree because it’s right before the desert heat kicks in and turns the place into a bit of a fiery furnace.
Two of the best campsites are Jumbo Rocks Campground and Hidden Valley Campground. When you’re here, you can look forward to rock climbing, stargazing, and hiking – particularly on the Hidden Valley or Cholla Cactus Garden trails.
Banff National Park | Alberta, Canada
We were about to say there’s no bad time of year to visit Banff National Park. And, while that’s technically true – and you can camp in certain sites year-round – it sure does get cold in the winter. Meanwhile, April is a lovely time to visit because you’ll get a nice mix of snowy and springtime scenery.
Tunnel Mountain Village and Two Jack Lakeside are great sites. And one thing you can certainly look forward to throughout your time here is a dip in the Banff Hot Springs. You can also take the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain and enjoy plenty of wildlife spotting all throughout your stay.
Laugavegur Trail | Iceland
The reason April is a great time to head this far north is because early-season hikers can enjoy the stark beauty of their surroundings without the summer crowds.
Your best bet will be Landmannalaugar Campground. Here, too, you can soak up the glory of the natural hot springs after an afternoon spent exploring the lava fields.
The Lake District | England
Who can say no to gorgeous spring blossoms and the rolling hills of England in springtime? Two of our favorite spots are Great Langdale Campsite and Low Wray Campsite.
Although you’ll love the serenity of your site, when you do get out and about, there are plenty of charming villages to wander through. And, if you can, try to carve out some time to kayak on Windermere – the district’s largest and, arguably, most beautiful, lake.
