You can book a tasting flight and sip your way through their white, rosé, and sweet Vinsanto while nibbling on local cheeses and tomato paste. As the sun begins to set, the terrace will turn gold and the wine will warm your heart. In a place shaped by fire, it’s amazing how much softness you can still feel throughout all these cliffs.
Swim at Red and Perissa Beach
The beaches of Santorini are not the soft, white sands you’ll find elsewhere in Greece. Here, nature painted with bolder strokes. At Red Beach, near Akrotiri, the crimson cliffs tumble into the deep blue sea, creating a dramatic contrast. It’s a short walk from the road, past rocky paths and stunning views, to reach the scarlet shoreline.
For something smoother, you can head to Perissa Beach, where black volcanic sand meets clear, shallow waters. This is a perfect spot to rent a sunbed, sip something cold from Tranquilo Beach Bar, and spend an afternoon doing absolutely nothing. These beaches may be opposites in color, but they both offer striking examples of Santorini’s elemental beauty.
Unwind in the Hot Springs
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, we still need to talk about the island’s hot springs. To no surprise, a volcanic island means volcanic pleasures, and nowhere is this more true than the hot springs on Palea Kameni island. Most sailing tours, including those from Santorini Yachting Club, provide tours where you can stop to wade through warm, iron-rich waters that are therapeutic for the skin and soul.
The springs are nestled in a quiet bay, reached only by boat. You’ll need to swim from the edge of your vessel into the rust-colored shallows where the temperature rises and the scent of sulfur hangs in the air. It’s not luxurious, exactly. But it is elemental, raw, and deeply moving.
Explore Ancient Akrotiri
Long before whitewashed domes and honeymoon suites, Santorini had a secret.
